Armistice Toonies

Armistice Toonies

One of many minor varieties of counterfeit toonies, fakes of the 2018 Armistice commemorative have been turning up in the hands of collectors online. Little if anything is known as to the origin, quantity or distribution of these fake coins at this time.

These coins feature a generic 2018 obverse design with (surprisingly), either the crowned or uncrowned portraits of Queen Elizabeth II. The crowned portrait by Dora de Pédery-Hunt was last used in 2003, well before the issue of the genuine Armistice coin in 2018.

NOTE: Some varities mentioned here are not positively confirmed to exist. The coloured variety appears to possibly just be a plain design with some form of paint sloppily applied.

Identifying Armistice Toonies

  • Solid maple leaves at top security area
  • Incorrect generic obverse design
